For the first day of Queens Fashion Week Spotlight we salute a plus sized powerhouse!

Queens Fashion Week is proud to introduce featured Model- Jeannie Ferguson.

 Who says you have to be six feet tall with a gorgeous mane to make it as a model?

Not 5’3 close cropped, Plus Petite Powerhouse Jeannie Ferguson.

With her signature walk, Plus Petite model Jeannie Ferguson has been featured in several

television shows such as -The Tyra Banks Show, and E! News.  She is  a five time model

and crowd favorite on BET's annual fashion special, Rip The Runway! Jeannie recently made

her television debut in the Kurvacious Boutique commercial that will be shown on Cablevision

channels such as BET, Centric, E!, News 12, SOAP, TLC, TV Land, VH1, The Wedding Channel

and WE. With appearances in countless publications such as People Magazine

( the Nivea challenge),  Glamour, Black Elegance,  Plus Model,  Manik and the cover of

Belle Noir Magazine-Jeannie Ferguson is steadily cementing her place in the

Fashion Industry as a top contender.

 Along with Jeannie’s outstanding talent a s a petite plus sized runway and print model,

she also possesses  over a decade of experience as a Buyer, Merchandiser, Allocator,

and Product Development Coordinator. She is presently not only one of the most recognized

and sought after Plus models in the Industry but,is also a well seasoned fashion insider.

 As one half of the burgeoning Junior Plus fashion house, Big Girls United (BGU) Jeannie,

took to the runway as a last minute replacement for a no-show model. As soon as the crowd

laid eyes on the 5'3, size 14 Ferguson strutting her stuff they took to their feet and the roar

was deafening. At that moment, Jeannie knew there was no turning back.

In the batting of a lash, Jeannie has knocked down many barriers and has overcome tremendous

obstacles in a land of glamazons. Jeannie has worked with such names as South Pole, Rocawear,

Coogi, Beverly Hills Polo Club and the House of Dereon.  

 "At 5’3 with a shaved head people laugh at me when I tell them I'm a model," said Ferguson "

but I know that I represent something fresh and new in the fashion industry. I feel blessed to be

living my dream."  With her expert knowledge, print, runway and fit experience, it seems as though

suddenly the industry is dreaming of Jeannie.

Queens Fashion Week is proud to introduce our Director of Make Up-

Danette Shoshana.

Danette is a native New Yorker, homegrown from the Bronx, NY, and now residing in Queens, NY. Danette started out applying makeup for all of her friends and sisters and her talent and spirit for the art of makeup application caught fire.

Danette created the name FACE SNOB as a play on words meaning that beautifying ones face will give women the confidence to take on the world and lift their self-esteem. Currently working for YSL as a Beauty Consultant and spearheading her own company FACE SNOB, she is living her passion! Queens Fashion Week takes great pleasure in introducing Life Style Accessories Designer-

Barbara Garnes of SoHe Designs.

 Miss Garnes,will be bringing her own special kind of magic to QFW's ' Runway Gala Event'. 

She will by styling and hosting our Home Decor Lounge on Saturday, September 18th

from 3-6pm at York Performing Arts Center.  Experience the one-of-a-kind 'Global Lifestyle'

collection.  Items featured will include lush pillows,Tea sets, linens and kitchen and bath

accessories.

 Barbara Garnes is the founder and Lifestyle Creator of Southern Hemisphere Design Group, Inc.

She formed the company to promote her life -long dream of creating products in her own fabrics

that reflect heritage and culture. The brand label, "SoHe Designs", represents the motto

"the lifestyle of global inspired design".

 

Her primary goal was to establish a company to create the most complete full line of

global/ethnic inspired home décor including bedding, bath, table, kitchen and wall covering.

Garnes is self-taught in textile design and she has sold her work to her fabric suppliers.

Her vision is that Afrikan countries become equipped to compete globally. Her new product

development division will service manufacturers in the Afrikan Diaspora. She produced a

monthly lifestyle television program that brought the art and culture of the African Diaspora

to her audience.

 "We are very excited about these plans", says Barbara Garnes, product developer for My Father's House.

"This is what all of my work has been leading up to" a complete coordinated line of home

décor and accessories with the original African American customer base in mind." Before starting

SoHe Design Group, Ms. Garnes owned and ran the company My Father's House since

1990, which manufactured Afrikan inspired home décor products- laminated accessories,

linens, loungewear and gifts. Her products sold in gift shops, museums and art galleries

across the country. She comes from an apparel design background and has a Marketing degree

from Fashion Institute of Technology. She has worked in retail, wholesale and manufacturing

and held positions as a pattern maker, salesperson, merchandiser and product manager.

 In 1992, as a product developer, she made history by making her employer,

Homeland Fabric and Fashions, the first African heritage company to ever attend the

New York Bed, Bath and Linen Show known today as the New York Home Textiles Show

She is  also known to be a well known source on the subject of product development and has

been a consultant for many  manufacturers and retailers.

After September 11, 2001, Barbara diligently approached the domestic home textiles

manufacturers with her portfolio with the hopes of creating the kind of line fashion forecasters were predicting,  that included ethnic designs.

Barbara looks forward to sharing her design genius with all of the QFW family, and as an added bonus- 'Runway Gala Event' attendees will be able to purchase her designs directly!
